Who is Mario Geotze? IBT Sports Australia already did a profile of him here:"Mario Goetze: The Man Behind Germany’s 2014 World Cup Win" but the world can’t get enough of the relatively unknown super sub.
Goetze or Götze, or however you spell his name (both are correct), would become the unlikely hero for his national squad. Thanks to an excellent ball control (chest) and a nifty strike (left foot) at the 113th minute of the second extra time, the 22-year old gave Germany its fourth World Cup trophy with the 1-0 win over Argentina.

Curiously and eerily, bundesliga.com has an archived article comparing Goetze to, who else, Messi:
“After shining for Germany at youth level through to the U-17s, Götze became the ninth-youngest Bundesliga debutant on 21 November 2009, coming on as a late substitute in the 0-0 draw with Mainz. A blistering start to the following season, for Dortmund and Götze in like measure, led to none other than Franz Beckenbauer drawing comparisons with Lionel Messi.
As the praise poured in, Götze nonetheless kept his head and on 17 November 2010, less than a year after his first ever professional appearance, he made his senior Germany debut in another 0-0 draw, this time against Sweden. He was the second-youngest player to pull on a Germany shirt.”
So is Goetze better than Messi?
Here are the Geotze vs. Messi stats and facts:
Goetze (left side) has suited up for the German NT from 2010 to 2014 while Messi (right side) has played for the Argentine NT from 2005 to 2014; Goetze as played for Borrusia Dortumund (2009-2013) and Bayern Munich (2013-2014) in the German Bundesliga while Messi for Barcelone (2004-2014) in Spanish La Liga.
International: 35 international caps vs. 93 international caps 11 international goals vs. 42 international goals
Club: 159 appearances vs. 425 appearances 47 goals vs. 354 goals
All comparisons heavily leaning towards Messi, right?
True, but not until the two most important stats/facts in life and soccer are considered:
World Cup trophy: Goetze 1, Messi 0.
And probably more importantly: Goetze’s wife, Ann-Kathrin Brommel Vida is better-looking than Messi’s girlfriend, Antonella Roccuzzo.
The latter is an arguable debate so head over to the slideshow to view the pictures of Mrs. Goetze plus Goetze’s winning moments in the 2014 World Cup final.
