MET Gala 2014: Best-Dressed and Worst-Dressed Stars
As the most important fashion night, the MET Gala 2014 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York on Monday evening was fashion-packed by designers, editors, and celebrities alike who converged to showcase their fashion styles.
The theme for this year's annual ball was tribute to the America's First Couturier Charles James: Beyond Fashion. The event serves as the formal kickoff for the annual Costume Institute Gala Benefit showcasing unparalleled fashion collections which will run from May 8 to August 10, 2014.
Just like any other themed party, there are best dressed celebrities who proved that fashion is truly in their blood while there are also worst dressed stars who got confused with the wildly idiosyncratic fashion statement of the theme.
According to Huffington Post's choice the best dressed stars, Blake Lively 's Gucci gown with cape and the plunging neckline literally makes everyone's jaws drop as she stepped onto the red carpet. Her husband, Ryan Reynolds joked to Andre Leon Talley that the dress has been "painted onto" his wife.
Beyoncé stepped into the red carpet with a black see-through Givenchy outfit while Georgia May Jagger arrived at the event in a Thierry Mugler black gown.
Emma Stone arrived at the event in a Thakoon head-to-toe pink top and skirt. Sarah Jessica Parker stepped into the red carpet in an over-the-top Oscar de la Renta white and black gown while Karolina Kurkova clad a printed Marchesa gown that showcases volume and an asymmetrical neckline.
A first timer in the MET Gala, Reese Witherspoon adorned a Stella McCartney gown with heart-shaped neckline, retro waves and matching diamond earrings.
Hailee Steinfeld paraded in a stunning Prabal Gurung gown that floated away from her body at the perfect spots while Charlize Theron attended the event in a unique and striking ensemble of Dior gown and tuxedo jacket.
On the other hand, Huffington Post's list of worst dressed stars include Lena Dunham in a hardly flattering strapless neckline and a mullet hemline while Lupita Nyong'o in a brown gown with green netted layer.
Kirsten Dunst's black gown appeared like an incohesive combination of three separate dresses. Maggie Gyllenhaal in a head-to-toe printed gown that looks like a rainbow parachutes. Lily Allen's gown in black silhouette and grey stripes does not look fabulous as well.
Shailene Woodley appeared at the event in a printed gown with different colors that looks woozying and odd. Elizabeth Olsen adorned a gown that resembles a figure skating costume.
Lea Michele was clad in a yellow gown with plunging neckline while Katie Holmes' yellow gown does not flatter the actress either.
