It's official: The back-to-back champion team has signed Gregory "Greg" Oden, former Portland Trail Blazers player.

Oden, who has come out of more than a year-long rest for due to a series of injuries involving his knee, is ready to get back in the NBA and will be playing with Miami Heat jersey number 20.

"After many months of discussion, evaluations and speaking with Greg, we felt it was the perfect time for him to make his comeback and re-enter the NBA with the Miami Heat," Heat President Pat Riley said in a statement about the signing of Greg.

"It's a great challenge for him. We know all about his past injuries, but we feel that there is a huge upside and the possibility of him helping us. We will continue his program and then we will tackle basketball issues after that," Riley said, addressing the former Blazers player's past surgeries.

In a statement released through Miami Heat's official Twitter account, the newly signed Heat Player said:

Oden: I am very excited and happy to be here. I'm thankful to the Miami HEAT organization for bringing me in and I'm ready to get to work.

Greg's new team assured him the feeling is mutual as they welcomed the newbie through a post in Instagram:

IGred Oden was the former overall number 1 draft pick in 2007. He eventually signed a two-season contract with Portland Trail Blazers and wore jersey number 52.

However, in September 2007, Oden had to have microfracture surgery due to his right knee and missed the entire first season as a Blazer. He made a comeback in the 2008-2009 season, but left his debut with an injured foot, missing another two weeks of the game. In a match against the Golden State Warriors, Oden bumped knees with Warrior Corey Maggette and missed yet another three weeks due to a chipped knee cap.

In late 2009, he injured his left knee and underwent surgery and was out again for the rest of the season. He had his second microfracture surgery on his left knee in 2010, which made him unable to participate in the 2010-2011 season.

Finally in 2012, after suffering another unspecified 'setback,' and undergoing yet another surgery for his knee, he was waived by the Blazers. From the start of his NBA career, it has been said that he had only played one full season.
