Michael Douglas is denying saying his throat cancer was caused by engaging in oral sex. However, the UK newspaper that interviewed the Oscar winner is adamant that he really said that. The Guardian posted an audio clip of the interview to prove that it got his words correctly.

On Monday, the paper published writer Xan Brooks' interview with the 68-year-old actor as he talked about a lot of things, including his marriage to fellow Oscar winner Catherine Zeta-Jones and his latest film "Behind the Candelabra."

It was a lengthy interview, but only one thing stood out from it: what had caused his throat cancer.

When asked if he thinks that he got the disease from his past alcohol and drug addictions, he answered no because his cancer, which he successfully beat in 2011, was caused by cunnilingus.

"From cunnilingus. I mean, I did worry if the stress caused by my son's incarceration didn't help trigger it. But yeah, it's a sexually transmitted disease that causes cancer. And if you have it, cunnilingus is also the best cure for it," Douglas was quoted as saying.

But according to his spokesman Allen Burry, the paper misquoted the actor.

"In a discussion with the newspaper, they talked about the causes of oral cancer, one of which was oral sex, which is noted and has been known for a while now," Burry told AP.

The Guardian didn't want to back out, though. The paper insisted that it didn't misunderstand the star's words. It has released an audio file and a verbatim transcript of the part of the interview wherein Douglas specifically said that he got his cancer from HPV (human papillomavirus).

"The Guardian firmly denies this charge of misrepresentation. Mr Burry was not present at the Guardian's interview with Michael Douglas; the only two people present were Mr Douglas and the Guardian writer, Xan Brooks," the publication wrote.

It added the transcript, which reads:

Xan Brooks: Do you feel, in hindsight, that you overloaded your system? Overloaded your system with drugs, smoking, drink?

Michael Douglas: No. No. Ah, without getting too specific, this particular cancer is caused by something called HPV, which actually comes about from cunnilingus.

Douglas is currently starring in the biopic "Behind the Candelabra" alongside Matt Damon. He plays pianist Liberace, while Damon plays his young lover Scott Thorson.
