Michael Schumacher is waking up very slowly from his medically induced coma following the severe head injuries he suffered from a skiing mishap, according to his teenage son, Mick Schumacher. The former Formula 1 driver is treated at his home in Switzerland after his skiing accident last December that put him in critical care at a hospital for six months in France, where the accident happened.

Despite transfer of his treatment at home, his family claimed that the seven-time world champion still has a long and difficult road ahead of his recovery, The Associated Press reports. Mick Schumacher provided F1 commentator Jean-Louis Moncet an update on his father's condition.

"I saw his son and he told me that Schumi is waking up very slowly; very slowly," Moncet said to Europe 1 radio, according to the Daily Mail. "Although things are going at a slow pace, he has a lot of time, I would say he has his whole life in front of him to get back on track."

The Frenchman further added that the injury was not from the hit but from the Go Pro on his helmet that injured his brain, and the former F1 world champion is still fighting as he is under the care of 15 medical experts at a medical suite especially built in his mansion.

Last week, Ferrari boss Jean Todt said a couple of encouraging words about Schumacher's condition. "We must assume that Schumacher can lead a relatively normal life again within a short period of time," Todt said, according to Independent. "We can say he can probably never drive a Formula 1 car again. But he is fighting."

The 15-year-old Mick Schumacher is poised to follow his father's footsteps as he recently finished runner-up at the karting world championships in France and came second in the junior kart championship in Germany. Although he started racing using his mother's maiden name, he has already changed it Schumacher Jr.
