The downbeat and hideous side of the social media emerged again with the hoax information on the death of F1 racer Michael Schumacher. Several facebook pages have surfaced on the internet with the insensitive title: R.I.P Michael Schumacher to RIP Michael Schumacher 1969 - 2014.

The 'About' page were given a credible account of the German racing driver's ephemeral which reads: "At about 11 a.m. ET on Saturday (December 28, 2013), our beloved racing driver Michael Schumacher passed away. Michael Schumacher was born on January 3, 1969 in Hurth. He will be missed but not forgotten. Please show your sympathy and condolences by commenting on and liking this page."

As expected, social media frenzied over the death hoax and myriads of fans instantly started writing their messages of commiseration on Facebook and Twitter. Some fans have expressed rage at the fake story saying it was irresponsible, upsetting and cruel to followers of the respected and loved racing star. Others articulated that this proves his tremendous global fame.

A Facebook user Andrea Leonti said, "Michael is not dead ignorant fools. Know that your page has been marked as spam." Another fan named Scot Christie much upset by the bogus reports said, "The person who did this page is sick and needs to be banned of Facebook."

On December 29, 2013, the racing driver's representatives officially stated that Michael Schumacher is alive and doing well stating: "He joins the long list of celebrities who have been victimized by this hoax. He's still alive and well, stop believing what you see on the Internet."

Meanwhile, F1 racing champion's condition still remains critical following his skiing accident. The doctors have stated that Schumacher is still in a medically induced coma and under a continuous hourly check. In 2004, Schumacher won the last of his world titles in 2004. In 2012, he formally retired. He will celebrate his 45th birthday on January 3, 2014.

Olivier Desaulty, a spokesman for Meribel Alpina, a ski lift firm, said two of its employees were the earliest who witnessed the scene: "Some skiers, who were not skiing with him, saw the accident and called us. We immediately sent two ski patrols on skis," said Desaulty.

"They had been waiting to do a check on something and were close by. So they arrived a few minutes after the accident. They checked him and called a helicopter. Apparently he was briefly, a minute or so, unconscious. But he came around quickly and was then talking. He said he had hit his head on a rock. He was wearing a helmet fortunately. The helicopter arrived very quickly and he was taken to hospital," continued Desaulty.

A spokesperson for the mountain rescue police stated: "It was a relatively serious trauma to the head. It was quite serious, particularly because it is a head injury. It is likely that he will stay in hospital overnight where he will be kept under surveillance."
