It was the news that every Formula One (F1) fan had been waiting for. Michael Schumacher has reportedly left the hospital in Lausanne to continue his rehabilitation at home, more than eight months after his skiing accident. Schumacher's manager and spokesperson Sabine Kehm released a statement after the seven-time F1 champion was moved home.

Below is Kehm's statement as reported by German media outlet Bild.

"Henceforth, Michael's rehabilitation will take place at his home. Considering the severe injuries he suffered, progress has been made in the past weeks and months. There is still, however, a long and difficult road ahead."

Schumacher's family through Kehm has thanked the medical staff and personnel of the Lausanne hospital for the intensive care that they had given Schumacher. Moreover, the family of the racing legend continued to ask to respect their privacy and to stop making up stories about Schumacher's current state of health.

The social media community couldn't be more pleased with the breaking news and turned to Twitter to express their delight. Here's some of the fans' reactions that ignited the social media.

In December 2013, Schumacher had a skiing accident while vacationing with his family in the slopes of the French Alps in Meribel Resort. He had suffered brain trauma and was put in a medically-induced coma and admitted in the University Hospital of Grenoble in France. In June, it has been reported that Schumacher has woken up from coma. A month later, Schumacher was transferred to a medical facility in Lausanne to continue his rehabilitation.

In recent weeks, German magazine Colorful has reportedly obtained exclusive information from some staff at Lausanne, stating that Schumacher may be brought home at Christmas. Apparently, it took earlier than anticipated.

It has been well over eight months since the skiing accident and despite grappling with a serious health condition, Schumacher continues to fight to stay alive. Schumacher's wife, Corinna, also maintains a fighting spirit and remains optimistic all throughout the entire ordeal. She was once quoted saying, "Our Michael is a fighter and he will never give up."
