Michelle Obama Turns 50, Husband Barack Does the 'Dougie' on her Birthday Party
Michelle Obama joins her husband Barack in the "50+ club" -- in style.
The First Lady of the United States (FLOTUS) turns 50 on Friday, and she starts off her transition by showing off her ID card from the American Association of Retired Persons.
"Excited to join Barack in the 50+ club today...check out my @AARP card!" tweets the First Lady along with a photo her holding the AARP ID.
Pres. Barack Obama, by the way, is now 52 years old and will turn 53 in August. A year ago, she created her official Twitter account (@FLOTUS), where she debuted a new haircut -- one with bangs. Michelle then joked that the haircut was her "midlife crisis."
"I couldn't get a sports car, they won't let me bungee jump -- so instead, I cut my bangs!" quipped the First Lady in a Skype interview with Rachael Ray.
The next day, the First Lady had her birthday party at the White House, where performers include John Legend, Jennifer Hudson, Gladys Knight and Beyonce.
Bey has performed for the Obamas more than once. She sang during the president's inaugural ball in 2009 and in the swearing-in ceremony three years later. Daughters Sasha and Malia are also huge fans of the "Crazy In Love" singer.
Pres. Barack Obama kept mum on the details of his wife's birthday bash, so much that "not even the NSA" will know what to expect, other than the statement, "It's going to be a rolling birthday weekend."
However, leaked details came along the way, including Michelle's outfit that night (a red and black ensemble), the food served ("Snacks & Sips & Dancing & Dessert"), and dress code required of the guests (wear comfortable shoes).
The entire state floor was converted into a dance floor, and at one point, Pres. Obama taught the guests how to do "The Dougie." Musician Herbie Hancock also spilled a few details on the bash, particularly the message Pres. Obama gave for Michelle.
"He said something-his voice almost cracked like he was crying. It was just beautiful, a husband speaking about his wife," said Hancock.
