Michelle Williams compares her time in Dawson's Creek to "being a mobster." While playing Jen Lindley on the series, Michelle had apparently been setting her sights higher than what was expected of her.

Williams told Nicki Gostin of PopEater that she takes it as a compliment that people never expected her to have "an interesting career" after watching her play Dawnson's Creek character for six seasons of the show.

Gostin says that the Hollywood actress is like a "female Johnny Depp" saying Depp "started off on a cheesy show too." Depp played the lead character in 21 Jump Street, a crime drama series back in the 1990s. The series was responsible for the Hollywood actor's rise as a teen idol like Justin Bieber early in his career.

Michelle then went on to accept the comparison, saying it was a "damn compliment."

"I said to a friend... being on Dawson's Creek was kind of like being a mobster. You set up a shop selling pizza but in the back you're laundering money," said the Hollywood actress.

"You're doing one thing in plain sight and secretly plotting something else. I was plotting my tastes, my interests, my beliefs and hopes for what I could be."

From Dawnson's Creek, she went on to star in Ang Lee's Brokeback Mountain where she met Australian actor Heath Ledger, with whom she has a daughter, Matilda Rose. For her turn in Brokeback Mountain, she earned an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress, losing to Rachel Weiz that year.

Now, Michelle is making buzz at the current awards season for her performance in the controversial film Blue Valentine opposite Ryan Gosling. Williams was recently nominated for the Best Actress at the Golden Globes Awards.
