Mick Junior Following In The Footsteps Of His Father, Michael Schumacher; Races To Silver In 2014 FIA KF Junior Championships
Mick Schumacher, son of racing legend Michael Schumacher, is following his father’s footsteps in the racing world. In the recent Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) KF-Junior Championships held in Essay, France, “Mick Junior” landed in second place behind British driver Enaam Ahmed, who took home the junior world championship.
Schumacher, who is from Germany, was driving for Tony Kart-Vortex-Vega and had strong results in the entire event but couldn’t beat Ahmed of the FA Kart-Vortex-Vega team in the 13 to 15 years old category of the karting world championships. Venezuelan Mauricio Baiz of team Kosmic-Parilla-Vega also had an impressive finish ending up with the bronze despite being in the back end for most of the race.
The FIA is the governing body for world motor sports and is the organisation responsible for the prestigious racing events Formula One Grand Prix and the World Rally Championships.
“I am obviously proud of this achievement but it is also clear that my goal is to be world champion. This is just the beginning of my career,” Mick Junior said via Italian website, La Gazzetta Dello Sport.
In the same article, it was mentioned Mick Junior was reportedly in tears post-race with Peter Kaiser, Mick’s mentor in the races and a friend of Michael Schumacher.
According to driverdb, a website that keeps record of racing results even at the junior level, this is the sixth prominent podium finish for the son of Michael Schumacher. Here are some of the past results from Mick Junior, who is now 15 years old:
3rd place at the 2013 CIK-FIA International Super Cup - KFJ
3rd place at the 2013 Euro Wintercup - KF3
3rd place at the 2012 DMV Kart Championship - KF3
3rd place at the 2011 Euro Wintercup - KF3
Champion at the 2010 Kerpener Kartchallenge - Bambini
Mick Junior previously raced with the pseudonym Mick Betsch in previous races. Michael Schumacher was recently transferred to his home in Switzerland where he will continue his treatment after a skiing accident last December 2013. Schumacher is a seven-time F1 world champion winning in 1994, 1995, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004.
Mick Junior’s racing career is just beginning but it appears, with the early success at the junior level, that he’s indeed following the footsteps of his father, the great Michael Schumacher.
