Microsoft finally purchased Nokia's mobile business along with a long-term licence of its patent portfolio and Here maps products which shocked the industry. Will the combined force send Windows Phone OS and Nokia back to the top? Here are five benefits for Microsoft on acquiring Nokia mobile.

Windows Phone OS

Windows Phone OS may not be as large as Android but there are several things offered by the latest version, Windows Phone 8. Microsoft's acquisition on Nokia will give full control to impart Windows Phone OS on all Nokia devices and possibly allow them to revive some aspect from Windows Mobile.

- Windows NT and Windows 8 shared components: Some programs may be allowed to work on all Nokia phones.

- Windows-based tablet: With the experience of Microsoft on making tablets, more Nokia tablets soon.

- Nokia's Mobile Experience: Microsoft can now use Nokia's mobile design and creativity to improve Windows Phone 8 in terms of better resolution support, hardware compatibility and more.

Nokia's Record

Nokia phones back in days are notable for being user-friendly compared with other brands, however, when smartphones arrived, the company started to lose its trending due to lack of technological innovation.

Microsoft can use this advantage to make a Windows Phone OS version which is totally user-friendly compared to the largest operating system - Android - and program-friendly for developers for easy optimisation of applications into their ecosystem.

Android's main weakness of fragmentation and open-source system made it the dominant in the world, if Microsoft applies similar principles on Windows OS to mobile devices, more consumers may become interested to switch.

Economic pricing, multiple support across devices including desktop, integration of applications/programs and larger ecosystem will make lives of Windows Phone OS users more convenient.

Camera Technology and Mobility

Nokia tried everything and even attempted to match Sony's camera phones by imparting Lumia devices with high-end cameras. Microsoft gains this unique aspect from Nokia phones and shouldn't be wasted.

Most Nokia Lumia devices support Wireless Charging which increases mobility; however, the accessory is not included upon purchase of a brand-new Nokia phone. Another creative product from Nokia is the Here maps which grants Microsoft control with CityLens, LiveSight and Transit.

Microsoft would be using both Bing and Nokia Maps in one floor which could bring better navigation and location details than Apple Maps or Google Maps if efforts concentrate on improvements.

Empowers Ecosystem

Hopefully, Microsoft can attract more developers to optimise applications to their ecosystem which is one of the baselines why consumers are buying phones. Games, utilities, reading and more are application categories needed or wanted by users which should be one of the most concerning factor for Microsoft.

It is unknown if Microsoft has acquired the Morph Concept by Nokia which is a research and development for flexible device bodies and nanotechnology. It was launched alongside the The Museum of Modern Art "Design and the Elastic Mind" exhibition.

The Morph Concept involve devices with a bridge linking highly advanced technologies and their potential benefits to end-users. The concept showcases some revolutionary leaps being explored by Nokia Research Centre in collaboration with the Cambridge Nanoscience Centre in the United Kingdom.

Morph Concept technologies might successfully create devices with:

- Newly-enabled flexible and transparent materials blend more seamlessly with the way we live.

- Devices become self-cleaning and self-preserving.

- Built-in solar absorption might charge a device, whilst battery becomes smaller, longer lasting and faster to charge.
