Microsoft is Reorganizing, What's In It for You?
Reports hint at Microsoft reorganization. This can spell tons for consumers though the restructuring should be subtle as reported.
"This will take years to work out," Patrick Moorhead explained. Moorhead is a principal analyst at Moor Insights & Strategy. According to analysts, it would take some time before people feel something different with their Microsoft platforms and products.
"A company the size of Microsoft is perpetually reorganizing. They're never done," Mr Moorhead added.
In reality, how Microsoft will change their organization and the changes that will take place are less important compared to who will lead these changes. The people leading the revamps matter more as they will be the ones realizing the goals.
"The impact will be subtle and long term," Rob Helm from Directions said about Microsoft. Directions is a research firm that monitors only the moves and conditions of Microsoft. They are also recognized for finding out the Redmond, Wash.
"It will be more to do with whom than how they're organized."
Wall Street Journal's AllThingsD blog together with Bloomberg and other similar sources reported that the restructuring or reorganization of Microsoft will include shuffling of products in different divisions. Current groups will also have to go. Observers of the company noted that reorganization plans date back to 2005. Analysts point out that all throughout these years that Microsoft has been planning the reorganization, this current plan will have to be the biggest change the company will go through.
For instance, Julie Larson-Green who is leading the engineering in Microsoft will look over hardware design and development in the future. This will include Microsoft's Surface series and Xbox. Satya Nadella, on the other hand, will head a new cloud computing and business line. Nadella is currently the
top executive of Microsoft's Servers and Tools group. The recent head of the Windows Phone division, Terry Myerson, will manage engineering for all platforms of the compaby.
"It's all about synchronizing with the grand strategy that [Ballmer] laid out with 'devices and services,'" Carolina Milanesi of Gartner said.
