After Sara McMann won on points during her last bout at UFC Fight Night 52 against Rin Nakai, she immediately put it out there that she is challenging Miesha Tate for her next fight. McMann was so focused on getting Tate that she even called the bantamweight fighter to ask her to re-tweet her latest status on social media site, Twitter.

McMann got what she asked for when the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) arranged for the top women fighters to meet in one of the preliminary fights for UFC 183 which will be held at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada this Jan. 31. The pay-per-view (PPV) event will be headlined by the return of Anderson “The Spider” Silva who will go up against the bad boy of the outfit Nick Diaz.

Tate thinks that her upcoming opponent will get more than what she wished for as she will show the former Olympic wrestling silver medallist that the calling out motivates her to train harder and perform better. The Tacoma, Washington native believes that she has the advantage over her McMann due to her well-rounded game, which will be the key to her winning the match.

“As a competitor, I have to admit that there’s a part of me that knows she wants to take what I have, and I want to take that opportunity from myself. I don’t want her to have the other half of my paycheck. Screw that,” Tate told MMA Junkie in the days leading up to the fight.

The 28-year-old Tate also believes that McMann is timid on her feet and relies too much on her ground skills much to her detriment. This was evident in the last time McMann faced Ronda Rousey only to succumb to a punch in the liver that cut short her aspiration of wearing the women’s bantamweight belt. Now, both women are using the upcoming match as an audition for another shot at Rousey.

Tate already fell to two arm bar submissions to the champion while McMann believes that the referee stopped the match prematurely. UFC President Dana White has not made any assurances that a win for either of them would be a passport to a title fight with Rowdy but both women are keeping their fingers crossed that it is the case.
