Looks like beau Liam Hemsworth has something to rejoice about: Miley Cyrus won't be 'having a ball' with a marine anytime soon, that's for sure.

Earlier this year, Lance Corporal Ian Hart sent the teen star a video request to attend the Marine Corps Ball this week. Unfortunately, she had to turn it down due to scheduling conflicts.

The said soiree will be held at Camp Pendleton on November 12, which is on this coming Saturday.

The U.S. Marine seemed to follow the 'heroic' antics of his colleagues who also asked celebrities to the ball. Some of those who accepted invites include Mila Kunis, who responded to Sgt. Scott Monroe's video request, and Justin Timberlake, who agreed to go with Cpl. Kelsey De Santis.

It must be daunting for the Lance Corporal when the base spokesman relayed the news to them.

However, things did not remain "good and broken".

Her dad, Billy Ray, invited the brooding marine to join the Cyrus family for a meal in Toluca Lake instead, which was decidedly done to make up for the unattended ball.

The 'Hannah Montana' star even expressed her regret through a phone call. "I am so bummed that I can't be there, I would have loved to meet you," she told Hart. "I want to thank you for everything that you do and for keeping everybody safe... you are heroes to a lot of people and it was a big honor that you asked me... thank you so much."

That should hold off Miley's detractors for a while.

Cyrus has obviously laid low this year, after a whirlwind 2010 that consisted of the end of her hit Disney Channel TV series, the 'salvia' incident and her much-publicized lovelife with Hemsworth.

But just like any other self-respecting Disney actress, she's still keeping her head up and aims for that smooth transition to adulthood. Adolescent girls can look forward to comedies 'So Undercover', 'LOL', and the animated 'Hotel Transylvania' on 2012, which could be signs of another wind for the pop star.

'Can't be tamed'? Maybe she is, after all.
