Miley Cyrus' MTV VMA Date, Homeless Youth Jesse Helt To Serve Six Months In Prison
Meeting Miley Cyrus has led Jesse Helt to be sentenced into prison. The "Adore You" singer has managed to rub a bit of her controversial streak to the homeless man she promoted at the recent MTV Video Music Awards. Jesse Helt, the homeless youth who was catapulted to public eye by Miley when she let him accept her award at the show that has now been arrested and sentenced to six months in prison.
The 22-year-old was wanted for violating his probation in 2010, but has been escaping the authorities by staying homeless for the past four years. According to court documents obtained by Independent.co.uk, Helt reportedly broke into the apartment of a man who had been involved in the sale of bad marijuana. Helt was arrested in 2010 for criminal mischief, criminal trespass and burglary. While Helt served his original 30-day sentence, he left Oregon before completing his probation.
The Oregon-based native pleaded with Judge Monte Campbell to be lenient on his sentencing when he appeared in court last Tuesday saying he wants to be "seen as a good person, not a nuisance to society," according The Guardian. Judge Campbell deducted 57 days of jail time for time that Helt already served, but he did subject him to six months imprisonment for failing to complete his probation agreement.
Helt met pop singer Miley Cyrus at Los Angeles-based "My Friend's Place" a shelter for homeless youth and became the surprise date for Miley at MTV VMA. Not only did the "Wrecking Ball" songstress let Helt accept her "Best Music Video" award by letting him go on stage but also let him make a speech on the awareness of homeless youth in the country. Miley has been fiercely supportive of Jesse on her social media accounts accusing the media to "go after Jesse" instead of focusing on the issue of homelessness. However, she has yet to comment on Jesse's arrest and recent sentence.
