Miley Cyrus’ MTV VMA Moonman trophy up for auction on eBay
If the (bid) price is right, anyone can get ahold of Miley Cyrus’ 2014 MTV Video Music Awards (VMA) Moonman trophy as it is being auctioned off on eBay.
Jesse Helt, the homeless guy Cyrus took to the MTV VMAs two years ago, is now selling the Moonman trophy with a US$10,000 (AU$13,144) minimum bid price.
On the eBay listing, Helt said he is selling the Moonman trophy that Cyrus won for the hit single “Wrecking Ball,” because, “I have a baby boy on the way, (and he is) due this November.”
Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball” won the Video of the Year award during the 2014 MTV VMAs. She took Helt as her date in a bid to raise awareness about youth homelessness as part of her Happy Hippie Foundation. Helt accepted the award on her behalf and his name was etched in the trophy as well as Cyrus.’
Helt assured prospective bidders that the Moonman trophy is “in mint condition” and "without fingerprints." It comes with the original packaging.
As of press time, bid price is at US$10,200 (AU$13,407) but in a separate eBay listing, the Moonman trophy was supposedly sold at US$60,211 (AU$79,143). But Helt clarified that the previous listing was messed up due to false bidding.
“This will no longer be for bid in 12 hours if no bids are placed. Two people messed up the previous listing bids due to false bidding, please be serious. This item will not be relisted again after those 12 hours are up,” he posted.
