Miley Cyrus Scores Both #1 Single & Album in the UK for 'Wrecking Ball' and 'Bangerz'
It seems like all of Miley's antics lately are paying off because it has landed her in the news all the time, giving her "Bangerz," album so much publicity, including her "Wrecking Ball," single that it topped UK's Official Album Chart and Official Singles Chart lists at the same time.
The 20-year-old Miley has been getting a lot of flak because of her series of rauncy performances, especially for her infamous Twerking at the 2013 Video Music Awards (VMA). But, it didn't stop there because after that incident, she followed it up with her "Wrecking Ball," music video wherein she rides atop a wrecking ball naked. In some scenes, she seductively licks a sledgehammer. Naturally, it got tongues wagging nonstop.
However, it could all have been a marketing strategy designed to make noise and promote her album. So far, it has worked as evidenced by her popularity today.
Of course, Miley was ecstatic. After all, there are a lot of bad things being said about her in the media nowadays. It even prompted Sinead O'Connor and Annie Lennox to post open letters and comments about her on their social media accounts, such as Twitter and Facebook. This awesome news is a welcome surprise to her and she expressed her appreciation, especially to her fans in the UK who made all of this happen.
"I truly appreciate the love I'm getting from the UK," she said to OfficialCharts.com.
"Not only is this my second Number 1 single, but even more amazing is my album has also gone in at Number 1! I can't wait to be back in the UK next month."
She also posted this on her Twitter account:
"#1 single & album in the UK ❤❤❤"
Miley faced some tough competition from other musicians, including Eminem for his single "Berserk," Conor Maynard for "R U Crazy," and One Republic for the song "Counting Stars." "Berserk," is the Number 2 single in the UK Official Singles Chart, "R U Crazy," is Number 4 while "Counting Stars," is Number 3. But, Miley still came out on top, debuting "Wrecking Ball," at Number 1. Miley's fourth album "Bangerz," also debuted at Number 1 on the UK Official Albums Chart. She became the first artist to top both charts in 2013.
