Miley Cyrus Topples Katy Perry To Achieve Her First Ever Top Spot in the Billboard US Countdown With 'Wrecking Ball' [VIDEO]
Move over Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus is here. Miley Cyrus's "Wrecking Ball" has pushed off Katy Perry's super hit single "Roar" to reach the number one spot in the Billboard Hot 100 charts.
Perry's single "Roar" had been at the top of the charts for the last two weeks but Miley's "Wrecking Ball" climbed up 21 spots to score her first ever number one in the United States.
Despite the controversy attached to the single's video where Miley is seen wreathing naked on the wrecking iron ball, the song has been a record breaker ever since its release. First it also broke the Youtube/Vevo record for being the most viewed music video in 24 hours attracting 19.3 million views!
The 20-year-old singer had previously reached only the number two position in her singles "We Can't Stop" and 2009's "Party in the USA" but "Wrecking Ball" is the first ever song where Miley reached the top spot.
Miley expressed her excitement and happiness at the success of the song via Twitter.
"#1 on Billboard. #1 on iTunes. #1 on Spotify. #1 on Streaming. #1 on Digital songs. #1 most added to pop radio. #1 on VEVO. #WreckingBall ," she wrote on Twitter.
Unlike the UK Top charts where only sales of the song is counted, the Billboard Top 100 is decided by the amount of video streams, download sales and radio plays. And Miley's "Wrecking Ball" received 36.5 million video streams and 477,000 paid download, Billboard reports.
According to Billboard, "Wrecking Ball" 21-1 on Streaming Songs.

Of that sum 92% are from YouTube views," Billboard reports.
Miley is also the first member in her family to attain top spot in Billboard countdown. Earlier in 1992, her dad Billy Ray Cyrus managed to reach the number four spot with "Achy Breaky Heart" while her brother Trace rose to number 10 with his band Metro Station's "Shake It" in 2008.
"Wrecking Ball" is the second single form Miley's highly anticipated album "BANGERZ" which will be out on October 7 in the UK and will feature Britney Spears, Nelly and Big Sean.
