Miley Cyrus Tops UK Singles Chart with 'We Can't Stop'
The Hannah Montana star has really come a long way. Miley Cyrus has a new feather to her cap and this time it is a first ever for her. Miley's hit single "We Can't Stop" has become number one single in the UK charts. "We Can't Stop" has knocked Swedish DJ Avicii's "Wake Me Up" to number second position at the UK charts.
It is the first time ever that Miley's single has reached the number one spot in the UK. The 20-year-old previously held the third position with "See You Again" in 2008 and was at number 11 with "The Climb and Party In The USA" in 2009.
It is also the first time that Miley's single has entered the league of Top 10 singles in Britain.
Looks like twerking in the music video is really helping out the Hannah Montana star. Her single "We Can't Stop" has already sold 128,000 copies over the last seven days, according to the Official Charts Company. The track has already climbed to number two on the U.S. Billboard Chart.
The much talked about video is also the number one watched video in Vevo ever since its release, Miley revealed in a tweet.
"We Can't Stop has been #1 on Vevo almost all damn week! Yallllll da!"
The video shows Miley in a very different avatar and had critics talking. However the Disney star is clear she didn't make the video for her critics but her fans. In an interview with Billboard magazine's June issue, Miley revealed that the video is based on a "true story."
"I'm 20 years old and I want to talk to the people that are up all night with their friends. It's based on a true story of a crazy night I had: When I heard the song for the first time, it captured exactly what I was living," the singer said.
"We Can't Stop" is the single from her upcoming fourth studio album Bangerz (stylized as BANGERZ) which marks Miley's departure from her teenage sweet girl image to a more mature, sexy and raunchy Miley.
Miley also revealed that she is trying hard to break her image of Hannah Montana days as she is a different person now than she was in her pre-teens. She has even chopped off her hair to prove that!
"Right now, when people go to iTunes and listen to my old music, it's so irritating to me because I can't just erase that stuff and start over," Miley said adding "when you're in your 20s, you just don't really know that person anymore."
So good bye sweet-talking Disney Miley and welcome to a tongue-sticking, hip twerking in your face!
