‘Minecraft’ news: Mojang limits advertising promotion rules, ‘Minecraft Story Mode’ episode 6 dated
Mojang has added a new clause to its guidelines for building in “Minecraft.” It seems that advertisers and companies will need to take a second look when it comes to using “Minecraft” as an advertising channel for their next projects.
In a new blog post from the developer, Mojang has touched on the topic of using “Minecraft” as a venue for purely commercial purposes. Given the big fanbase and community that “Minecraft” has accumulated over the years, it has become a hot target for advertising, be it for companies or causes.
“We want to empower our community to make money from their creativity, but we’re not happy when the selling of an unrelated product becomes the purpose of a ‘Minecraft’ mod or server,” said Mojang in the blog.
There are three main areas that will be affected under the new guidelines. “Minecraft” mods or servers that are used to promote unrelated products in playable form will no longer be allowed. There’s also bad news for studios who are thinking of creating a “Minecraft” map or mod that markets a movie or TV show. This particular clause encompasses the creation of movie trailers or gameplay footage from a particular map or mod.
Still, Mojang did mention that fans can still input their favourites—including movies, products and the like—and incorporate and build them in “Minecraft.” According to the developer, the point of the changes is to ensure that these mods or maps do not exist solely for the purpose of selling or promoting these items.
In other “Minecraft” news, the sixth episode of “Minecraft: Story Mode” has also been announced for launch on June 7. Polygon reported that the episode will be titled “A Portal to Mystery.”
The new episode will be available to all platforms, including the Windows Store. It will be expanding the story of “Minecraft: Story Mode” as one of the three-part expansion episodes.
A Portal to Mystery will feature five “Minecraft” YouTube personalities, including Stampy Cat, Stacy Plays, DanTDM, LDShadowLady and CaptainSparklez. These characters will join Jesse and friends in the new mystery at hand.
“Minecraft Story Mode” episode 6 will be available for US$4.99 (approx. AU$7). For fans who are thinking of getting all three episodes for this series can get the Adventure Pass, which will be sold for US$14.99 (approx. AU$21).
