The unusual things that passengers bring into New Zealand when they arrive at its airports from overseas would make an interesting list if the staff of the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) would make such a compilation.

One item that would be on that list is a 29-cemtimetre donkey penis declared by a Chinese passenger as food, Stuff.co.nz reports. New Zealand has a policy of disallowing the entry of many kinds of ready-to-eat or raw food, whatever shape these items are or whatever body part of an animal they came from.

The traveler arrived at Wellington airport in January and declared he was carrying food. Inspection by the MPI staff of his bags yielded donkey meat which was destroyed.

However, no charges were filed against the Chinese tourist because he declared the items voluntarily.

Most probably that man was unaware of tight New Zealand rules on food safety, which is one of the reasons why the MPI came up with this quarantine message for Chinese travelers.

The man's different culinary taste is considered not surprising among Chinese, many of whom are fond of eating the genitals of male animals in the belief that it has aphrodisiac ingredients. These include penises and testicles of a horse, ox, donkey, deer and dog.
