Minnesota Vikings has waived A.J. Jefferson off the team, following his arrest for domestic assault charges that his girlfriend has filed on him.

The former cornerback was accused of allegedly strangling his long-time girlfriend at their house on Monday, TMZ reported. The victim told the police officers that she went out with Jefferson the night before the said incident. She stated that everything went out of control that Jefferson ended up sleeping over at their neighbour's house, while she slumbered on their home's guest room.

Things got worse when Jefferson came back home and accused the victim of disregarding his text messages. She told the police officers that he seized her by the neck before tossing her on the floor. She insisted that she never fought back because she couldn't breathe. She also stated that there was no way that she could fight back because he was a lot bigger than her.

Jefferson was arrested the very same day that the alleged victim reported that incident. On Tuesday, just a day after, Jefferson was waived by the Vikings. He was charged with felony domestic assault by strangulation on Wednesday. He managed to temporarily get out of jail by paying a bond of $40,000.

"We are saddened at the continuing ability of men to get this simple message," said Mike Freeman of the Hennepin County attorney's office. "Do not hit, strangle, slap, or in any other way, assault your girlfriend or your wife," Freeman added.

If he is found guilty, Jefferson could face jail time, equivalent to three years of imprisonment.

Jefferson began his professional football career with the Arizona Cardinals in 2010. Two years after, he was signed by the Vikings. He has a total of 109 tackles and 2 interceptions all throughout his career in the National Football League (NFL).
