Transport Minister Anthony Albanese told the car industry to quickly pursue the issue of reducing pollution from vehicles instead of requesting for a delay of reforms.

Mr. Albanese warned the industry last night to get on with their jobs and discontinue lobbying for the delay of the fuel emission standard.

The Transport Minister was the guest speaker of the auto industry at a dinner last night in Melbourne. Majority of the car company chiefs were present.

The minister said the government is willing to receive feed backs and perspectives from the industry but he wanted a quick resolution to the issue.

''The government expects the industry to show leadership and embrace the purpose and intent of the change and not substitute prevarication for action,'' he said.

Mr. Abanese adds that a new national policy will be released later this month to help reduce carbon dioxide emissions from vehicles..

The auto industry is currently pressuring the government to postpone the introduction of the Euro 5/6 Standard, which reduces a range of pollutants aside from carbon dioxide.

Mike Devereux, owner of Holden and the incumbent president of the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries said that future investment plans in local engine plants will be jeopardized if tougher regulations were enforced.
