‘Mirror, Mirror’ VS ‘Snow White and the Huntsman’ : Which is the Fairest Snow White Adaptation of them All?
It's certainly a delicious twist of events when not 1 but 2 movies with the same subject matter release trailers within days of each other.
This week, Tarsem Singh's "Mirror, Mirror" and Rupert Sanders' "Snow White and the Huntsman" go head to head in the battle of which fairy tale rendition will create more buzz for their respective films.
Even as the two movies couldn't be more different from each other, one cannot help but think which adaptation will come out on top, and which one will take a bite of the poison apple.
To be sure, they have some similarities. Both Snow Whites promise a departure from the traditional fairy tale-Tarsem's a sweet princess turned bandit while Sanders' is just straight up fierce. Presumably, both will still have a bite at the poison apple but so far, there are no leads as to how each fair maiden will awaken.
Both films also feature a powerhouse of an evil queen-"Mirror" has Julia Roberts playing a sarcastic, even endearing queen who wants to marry the prince for a quick fiscal fix and "Huntsman" utilizes Charlize Theron's acting chops for the most malevolent queen this side of fairy tale land.
That being said, it's probably obvious how different these 2 films are. Tarsem's film is comedic and he's even been on the record as saying that his Snow White probably caters to children more than they do adults. Sanders, on the other hand, looks like he's shooting for more action and grit and blood in his version.
The two films are due to be released May 16 ("Mirror") and June 1 ("Huntsman"), just a few weeks of each other. Looks like it's going to be too close to call until the summer.
