Miss Universe 2013 Contoversies Roundup: Ariella Arida, Leaked Winner List, Miss Ghana Kidnapping
Since the very beginning, Miss Universe 2013 has been hit by various controversies. With the grand finale just a day away we take a look back at the Miss Universe 2013 controversies:
1. Miss Universe Ghana Hanniel Jamin had claimed that she was kidnapped by the organizers so that she does not participate in Miss Universe 2013 contest. She had posted on Facebook that she was threatened to be replaced by the first runner up of Miss Ghana contest.
"Please the miss universe organisation worldwide, pageantology, missosology, russian embassy, russian and ghanaian immigration, the media please take note," she had stated on Facebook pleading for help from Media.
2. Miss Universe Philippines Ariella Arida was criticized for passing racial comments on Latino beauties for their inability to speak English.
"When you get there, it's (on) how your express yourself. Latinas can't even complete a sentence... in English. I think it's (just) the Filipino(s) who are critical. Many of the candidates have a translator. But I know I'm gonna deliver," she had told in an international interview.
For this statement,Ara had to face the wrath of the Latino people. However, she later apologized for her statement. She wrote on her Twitter account, "OM sorry. I didn't mean to offend anyone from my last interview. I hope you guys can understand what I'm trying to say."
3. Miss Universe's Preliminaries score was mistakenly leaked by one of the judges which suggested that Miss Britain, Amy Willerton will win Miss Universe 2013. The latter reports revealed that Miss USA Erin Brady is leading the way. Though none of the reports were confirmed.
Miss Universe 2013 will be judged by boadcast journalist David Perozzi, Elena Semikina who is the Miss Universe Canada 2010, E! News Alicia Quarles, modelling manager Corrine Nicolas, PR and marketing manager Gabriel Rivera-Barraza, businesswoman Irina Agalarova, and Telemundo's Jose Sariego.
The grand finale will take place on Nov.9, at Crocus City Hall in Moscow.
