Miss Universe 2013 Full Recap: Controversial Candidates, Top Events, Leakages & Predictions

It's the day before the Miss Universe 2013 Coronation Night in Crocus City Hall in Moscow, Russia and the pressure is on for the pageant's 86 aspiring beauty queens who are vying for the Nexus Crown.

Tomorrow's event will reveal the top 16 candidates who will proceed to the next stage of the competition, and the judges will narrow it down to 5 for the last and final part of the pageant.

Top 10 Controversial Candidates

1. Miss Philippines Ariella Arida - "Latina" comment controversy and her English communication skills.

2. Miss Myanmar Moe Set Wine - The first candidate of Myanmar after 52 years of not joining the pageant.

3. Miss USA Erin Brady - Her transformer national costume that could make or break her chances to get the crown.

4. Miss Kosovo Mirjeta Shala - Shala was not authorized to partake in this year's pageant as Russia does not identify with Kosovo's 2008 "Declaration of Indepedence."

5. Miss Albania Fioralba Dizdari - Russia's denunciation of Miss Kosovo's MU candidacy is the reason why Dizdari withdrew her candidacy from the pageant as Albania shares a promising relationship with Kosovo.

6. Miss Israel Yityish Ayanaw - She is the first black girl to represent Israel in Miss Universe pageant. The 21-year-old transformed from a little girl from an Ethiopian village to a Israeli beauty queen.

7. Miss Singapore Shi Lim - If Miss Philippines were criticized because of her English speaking skills, Lim was heavily criticized because she doesn't have the Singaporean accent. Apparently, "Singlish" is the accepted accent for Singaporeans.

8. Miss Bulgaria Veneta Krasteva - The breast cancer survivor.

9. Miss Ghana Hanniel Jamin - According to Ghana web, she received threat that she would be stripped of her title due to her unfair treatment complaint from the organizers. She went ranting on Facebook account but apologize after when she was sent to Moscow to represent her country.

10. Miss Czech Republic Grabriela Kratochvilova - Awarded as "People's Bond Girl," Kratochvilova rocked her pixie haircut amidst the sea of long-haired MU candidates.

Top Events

Yamamay Fashion Show - Yamamay is a high-end Italian brand known for their top of the line lingerie and swimwear collection. The brand is the pageant's sponsor for swimwear and will unveil their million dollar swimsuit on Miss Universe 2013 Coronation Night. Out of 86, there are only 23 candidates who are selected to model the brand's swimsuit.

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Russia - This is one important fashion event for the lucky contestants for they will have the chance to model Tony Ward's creation. There are only 27 candidates who were selected to model for the Tony Ward Couture Fashion Show.

Mercedes-Benz TV Commercial - The recent Mercedes-Benz television advertisement features 6 Miss Universe contestants, including the only Asian in the batch, Miss Philippines Ariella Arida.

Emin Music Video - The Azerbaijani singer Emin will be one of the performers for this year's Miss Universe pageant and he recently shoot a music video for his latest single In Another Life" featuring 9 of the Miss Universe candidates.
