Miss Universe 2013 Gabriela Isler TV Interviews: Transgender Should Have Their Own Pageant (See Video)
Gabriela Isler, the newly crowned Miss Universe 2013, sat down with HuffPost Live Thursday to discuss her win in the most prestigious beauty pageant in the world. Since her victory, the 25-year-old beauty queen has been invited for various interviews. This time she was asked on her stand about transgender people joining the Miss Universe pageant.
Interview host Ahmed Shihab-Eldin asked the controversial question when a transgender was disqualified to compete in Miss Universe Canada pageant last year.
"They should have their own pageant, I think, and maybe they can realize in this pageant, Miss Universe, or the other pageants [were] made for women," she said. "They are... they have the opportunity, but I think that they have to compete with the same... the same team. Right?," Isler said.
She added it's not her decision. As a human being everyone has an opportunity to realize his dream and make it come true. Isler was crowned as the 7th Venezuelan Miss Universe in Moscow, Russia on Nov. 9, 2013. Venezuela has won more Miss Universe major awards than any other nations.
The 'Today Show'
Her interview with 'The Today Show' was light and easy where she discussed the confusion of the first few seconds her name was announced as the winner. Since she didn't heard anything she though that Miss Spain won the title and was entirely shocked when Olivia Culpo was coming to her to with the crown.
When asked what is her plan for her reign, she said now she can do all things that she loves. She wants to be a new role model for the girls and work with sick children through the Miss Universe charities.
Live With Kelly And Michael
As the new Miss Universe, Isler is going to live in New York for her entire reign and since it's her first time in the Big Apple, the hosts of the show welcomed her. She said she is very blessed to have the opportunity, have her own apartment across Central Park and Office where one can work as the Miss Universe Organization ambassador.
The show ended with a special dance lesson with the Miss Universe.
