After 47 years of competing in the Miss World Beauty pageant since 1966, a Filipina finally brought home the crown on Saturday, Sept 28, 2013, in Bali, Indonesia. Miss World 2013 is Miss Philippines Megan Young, a 23-year-old actress, VJ and model who started her show business career in 2005 at the age of 15 in a reality talent search.

The Miss World is the only major international beauty pageant where there has been no winner from the Philippines, until Saturday, which has two Miss Universe winners in 1969 by Gloria Diaz and 1973 by Margie Moran and four Miss International winners in 1964 by Gemma Teresa Cruz, 1970 by Aurora Pijuan, 1979 by Melanie Marquez and 2005 by Precious Lara Quigaman.

However, two Miss Philippines contestants had actually almost snagged the crown in 1973 and 2011.

Miss World 1973 Marjorie Wallace of the United States was dethroned, but the crown was not given to Evangeline Pascual. She was offered to carry the duties of Miss World for the remaining months of the year, but would not be given the title. Since she was doing a movie that time, Pascual declined even when the crown was later offered, which eventually went to the 2nd runner-up from Jamaica, Patsy Yuen.
