Miss World 2014 Final Event: Miss Australia Courtney Thorpe Reaches Top Five But Fails To Wear A Crown
The Miss World 2014 is not Miss Australia Courtney Thorpe. Miss South Africa Rolene Strauss won the competition, outshining Thorpe and the rest of the 119 contestants. Thorpe was one of the top five finalists but she failed to win the coveted Miss World crown. She also did not bring home the runner-up, or the second runner-up, crown. Miss Hungry Edina Kulcsár was declared the first runner-up while Miss United States Elizabeth Safrit is the second-runner-up. Miss England Carina Tyrrell, too, made it to the top five. The final event of the 2014 Miss World beauty pageant, which began on Nov. 20, was held at ExCeL London Exhibition and Convention Centre on Sunday, Dec. 14, 2014.
The 24-year-old Brisbane girl, who is a student of Mass Communications at university, failed to impress the judges with her answer to the question, "why do you think you should be the next Miss World.?" All the five contestants were asked the same question and were supposed to give the best answer in 30 seconds.
Thorpe's answer: "I think I want to be the next Miss World because throughout this journey, I've learned more than I ever, ever thought that I would. And, I truly feel like I found my purpose and my place being here. And, I feel that I'm just excited to continue with that and see where it could go. And, I feel like I've so much more to learn and so much more to give as the next Miss World."
In addition to being a student of Mass Communication, Thorpe works part-time as a freelance writer and as a fashion stylist. She wishes to write a series of educational books for children. She is interested in modern History and her favourite book is "Diary of Anne Frank." Thorpe also has an adventurous side, as she enjoys wake boarding, horse riding, camping and boating, according to Miss world offical site.
At the Sunday evening coronation event of 2014 Miss World, Sky Blu from LMFAO and the British boy-band The Vamps performed live. In addition to the top five finalists, the five girls that made it to the top ten are Miss Guyana Rafieya Husain; Miss Brazil Julia Gama; Miss Kenya Idah Nguma, Miss Mexico Daniela Álvarez Reyes and Miss India Koyal Rana. Miss Thailand was also in the contention to reach the final top five after she was announced as the People's Choice winner.
