Miss World Megan Young Meets President of the Philippines, Received Commendations from House and Senate
Monday, Oct. 10, Miss World Megan Young had the honor of being invited for an audience with the president himself, Benigno Aquino III at the Malacanang Palace. A day full of meetings, the 23-year-old beauty queen visited the Senate and the House of Representatives where she received commendations from her victory as the first Filipina to win the elusive "blue crown".
"Visiting Senate, Congress and President Benigno Aquino III today has been a wonderful experience, something I never expected to happen. I feel very privileged to have been invited here. It is the greatest honour any Filipino citizen could receive", she told Miss World's official website.
Wearing a Filipiniana inspired gown, Young received a copy of the Senate Resolution 272 authored by Philippine Senator Lito Lapid, commending and congratulating her for ending the country's 62-year wait for the Miss World crown. Five other Senators also filed similar resolution including Senator Grace Poe.
Lapid's resolution has noted Young's Miss World achievements for winning the Top Model challenge, ranked fourth in the Multimedia Contest, placed fifth in the Beach Fashion tilt and was declared the Continental Queen for Asia and Oceania.
"This is the first time the country has won the coveted title, exemplifying a shining symbol of peace and inspiring a generation of young women treasuring the core values of humanity, mutual understanding and spirit of kindness," Poe said in her resolution.
Accompanied by Miss World Organization CEO, Julia Morley, Young received the Congressional Medal of Distinction from the House of Representatives, authored by Speaker Feliciano Belmonte Jr., Majority Leader Neptali Gonzales II, and Minority Leader Ronaldo Zamora.
The House Resolution 368 reads, "Now, therefore be it, resolved by the House of Representatives, conferring the Congressional Medal of Distinction to Ms. Megan Lynne Young as the first Filipino to be crowned Miss World during the Miss World 2013. Ms. Young has displayed a clear purpose and the determination to showcase the inherent beauty, grace and intelligence of a true Filipina, which should serve as an inspiration to all Filipinos."
This recognition are just one of the many heartfelt and truly astounding signs of appreciations and support for Megan Young. The whole country of the Philippines is beaming with pride for having her back and representing the country in the global arena.
Julia Morley of MWO was also amazed of the warm welcome of Filipinos and vows to visit the poorest community in the country.
"I am delighted that Megan is receiving these awards in her country. She certainly deserves this wonderful recognition. We would like to thank President Benigno Aquino III for receiving us, it is a great honour. Over the next year we have committed to visiting as many of the poorest regions of The Philippines as we can, in support of the most disadvantaged people," she said.
