Missing Air Asia Plane Flight QZ 8501: Airline Changes Red Logo To Grey
Now that the search and rescue operations are underway, Air Asia is mourning the disappearance of flight QZ 8501 by changes its red logo to grey. Due to arrive in Singapore at 08.30 (00:30 GMT), the missing Air Asia flight lost contact at 07:24 (23:24 GMT) after requesting "deviation" from its flight path due to bad weather, according to a statement released on Air Asia's Facebook page.
"Asia's largest budget carrier AirAsia has switched its fiery red logo to grey as search continues for the missing AirAsia Indonesia's flight QZ8501 which disappeared earlier today," based on the report posted on The Malaysian Insider.
The Singapore-bound Airbus A320-200 jet lost contact over the Java Sea, between the islands of Kalimantan and Java with 155 passengers on board. In a statement released by the airline, the passengers are consist of 138 adults, 16 children and one infant. The passengers are mostly Indonesians, with three South Koreans and one of each from Singapore, Malaysia and France.
The missing aircraft is under the supervision of captain Iriyanto, who goes by only one name which is common for Indonesians, who had a total of 6,100 flying hours. His first officer had a total flying hours of 2,275. The Air Asia Indonesia is currently cooperating with the investigation, and has established an Emergency Call Centre for the passengers' family who are looking for information about the missing flight. The aircraft has two pilots, four flight attendants and one engineer on board, as the search and rescue operations are being conducted under the management of The Indonesian of Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). Air Asia's chief executive Tony Fernandez thanked everyone on Twitter for their prayers as he encourage the family members of the missing passengers to stay strong.
Known as one of Asia's largest carrier, Air Asia is another national carrier of Malaysia who went missing this year after Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 and MH17 suffered a terrible blow. Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 went missing from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing in March with 239 passengers, while Malaysian Airlines flight MH17 was shot down in Ukraine in July killing all its 298 passengers.
