"Modern Family" returns for its sixth season with the premiere episode entitled "The Long Honeymoon" and as expected, the story picked up after Mitchell Pritchett and Cameron Tucker's wedding which was the highlight of the season 5 finale.

Cam and Mitch have finally gotten married after several false starts and mishaps but Cam recalls it to be a storybook wedding. The couple spent their honeymoon in Mexico and season six picks up several weeks after their return. Cam is clearly still enjoying the honeymoon stage as he is overly attentive and sweet to Mitch.

On the other hand, Mitch has slowly gotten back to his regular routine and while he appreciates Cam's efforts, he's starting to feel overwhelmed by the attention. He's also worried that Cam's actions are impossible to reciprocate and that could land him in trouble.

Cam reminds Mitch that it's their third " month-sary" since their wedding and he presents a bouquet of flowers. Mitch points out that he had just received flowers the day before but Cam is oblivious to what Mitch is trying to say. He continues to be sugary sweet and Mitch flees to his sister Claire for advice.

At the Dunphy house, things are going really well between Claire, Phil and their two kids Haley and Luke while their other daughter Alex is off for a humanitarian mission. When Mitch comes to ask Claire for advice regarding what Cam is doing, Claire tells him that it won't go down well if he tries to quell the flames. She said that telling Cam to dial down the romance could come across as offensive and insensitive. Mitch agrees and acknowledges that he is being ungrateful. Claire says that Mitch should just ride it out and Cam will eventually dial things down in his own time and Mitch might even miss it.

As Mitch walks out, Phil, who is still on a high from the remarkably good summer that the family is having, offers Claire a plum. Mitch sarcastically remarks to Claire that she can't miss it since Phil seems to still be a romantic himself.

When Mitch gets to a small office get-together, Cam shows up unannounced and starts hugging Mitch in front of colleagues. Mitch is mortified by the excessive show of affection so, while dancing with Cam he opens up about taking things down a notch. As predicted, this does not go well with Cam. The two return home where Mitch discovers a series of balloons, candles and other small surprises that Cam prepared for him.

Cam explains his actions stating that he is afraid that the honeymoon stage is over not and that might mean the end of romance in their relationship. He pointed out that the same happened before when they adopted their daughter Lily and the relationship became more about parenting than romance. Mitch tries to make it up to Cam by saying that he won't let Cam take the blame for losing the romance before and he started playing a song from when they first moved in together. The argument is settled when the couple start dancing in their own living room. The mood is inadvertently broken when Lily walks in and asks if "fairy time" is over. The two were shocked at first but she explained she meant her costume and how she wanted to get out of it. All's well that ends well in the Tucker-Pritchett household.
