The Baltimore Orioles have signed Delmon Young to a Minor League deal with an invitation to join the team in Spring Training, the ballclub announced on Monday.

Young, who is hitting .260/.307/.407 in 361 plate appearance with the Philadelphia Phillies and the Toronto Blue Jays last season, is said to be one of the two players the Orioles plan to acquire ahead of this week's minicamp.

The 28-year-old Young is expected to be one of the candidates as a part-time designated hitter, having a better batting percentage against lefties .303/.341/.471

Aside from the veteran slugger, the Orioles have also shown interest in signing Jack Cust to minor league deal. The 35-year old Cust last made his MLB stint in 2011 as he batted .213/.344/.329 with the Seattle Mariners. In 2012, he played for Triple A teams affiliated with both the Toronto Blue Jays and the New York Yankees.

His tenure with the Oakland Athletics is by far the best stint he had in the MLB, as Cust hit .247/.381/.457 over four seasons.

The Orioles have already a total of nine outfielders with Quintin Berry designated as non-roster invitee while David Lough comprises one half of the left field platoon.
