MLB News: Chicago White Sox Sign Free Agent Melky Cabrera
The Chicago White Sox have agreed to a deal with free agent Melky Cabrera, according reports. The deal for the switch-hitting outfielder is seen as an upgrade for the White Sox’s left field rotation and the contract is apparently at three years $42 million though the White Sox club have not confirmed the specifics of the deal.
Adam Eaton, one of Cabrera’s new teammates welcomed him via social media Twitter and the post was retweeted by Cabrera:

It has been a very active offseason so far for the White Sox as they earlier acquired the likes of pitchers Zach Duke, David Robertson, Dan Jennings, Jeff Samardzija, Adam LaRoche and now Cabrera. The offseason moves is widely seen to complete the White Sox’s rebuilding process to becoming a title contender in 2014-2015. The Chicago White Sox went 73-89 in the 2013-2014 season to miss the MLB postseason for the sixth straight year.
Cabrera batted .301 with 81 runs scored in 139 games for the Blue Jays last season, hitting 16 home runs with 73 RBIs. The 30-year-old from Dominican Republic played for the New York Yankees from 2005 to 2009, Atlanta Braves in 2010, Kansas City Chiefs in 2011, San Francisco Giants in 2012 and Toronto Blue Jays in 2013 to 2014. Cabrera’s arrival will most likely put Dayan Viciedo out of the line-up.
designated hitter.
