The Cincinnati Reds could have their best closer in the coming weeks as reports indicated that Aroldis Champman is set to make a rehab stint after throwing 25 pitches during batting practice, the team announced on Tuesday.

Chapman, who was hit in the forehead by a line driver during Spring Training game last March 19, nears his regular-season debut after passing all the concussion test and throwing a number of pitches.

"Chapman likely will pitch at Class A Dayton on Thursday in his first time in a game since suffering a head injury. He's hoping to be activated after four or five appearances in the minors," ESPN reported on Tuesday.

The Reds closer is optimistic about returning as soon as possible on the field, despite suffering a nightmarish injury that dealt him damage on his left eye and nose.

"It went very good," Chapman said, with trainer Tomas Vera translating, according to ESPN. "All my pitches were the way I wanted."

Chapman recorded a 2.54 ERA with 38 saves and 112 strikeouts last season with the Reds.
