The Texas Rangers are reportedly interested to extend Nelson Cruz contract, a source close to situation disclosed on Thursday.

The Rangers are planning to extend Cruz's tenure in Texas via qualifying offer, but many basketball followers predicted the slugger will reject the contract in an attempt to become a free agent and ink a lucrative multiyear deal this winter.

The 33-year old Cruz and his representatives have roughly two weeks left to decide if he will accept the qualifying offer worth $14.1 million for 2014.

Cruz, who was suspended for the final 50 games last season after he was linked in the South Florida-based Biogenesis clinic, averaged .266 with 27 homers and 76 RBIs last season.
