MMA News: Gina Carano and Rhonda Rousey Fight Possible as UFC Meeting Looms Next Week
The former female lead of mixed martial arts is anticipating a head to head collision with the new darling.
UFC President Dana White bared that he will have a sit down meeting with former mixed martial arts champion Gina Carano next week and hopes to sign her to a contract. The lure of the new contract is a possible match-up with Rhonda Rousey.
White and Carano are scheduled to meet in Los Angeles next week and he is hoping to ink the star after adding undefeated fighter Holly Holm.
"One down, one to go," White told ESPN.com. "I'm going to meet with Gina next week and get that f***ing thing done. Next week, man. It's just a matter of me and Lorenzo going to jump on a plane to Los Angeles, get in a room with her and her lawyer and get this thing done."
The dream fight between Carano and Rousey has long been hoped for by fans of the sport but shot down too many times as an internet hoax. This time the prospect might just come into fruition. Carano may be rusty after not having fought since August 2009 suffering a loss to Cris "Cyborg" Justino in a Strikeforce featherweight title match.
During the absence of Carano from the sport she has been prominent in the film industry making her brand more recognizable with films like the Fast and the Furious 6 and Haywire. Rousey has also made a celebrity name and is scheduled to appear in the latest installment of the Expendables franchise. The new career paths of both women fighters however, has not diminished their love for the sport as Carano has expressed desire to match-up with the undisputed best woman fighter of the sport.
"There's no doubt about it, she wants to fight," White said. "And she wants to fight Ronda."
