We are nearing the dawn of Mauricia "Shogun" Rua's patented high flying strikes.

The 32-year-old fighter revealed during an interview at the Brazilian Show Agora e Tarde last week that his family is always nagging him on the issue of hanging up the gloves. Facing the twilight of his career at just a ripe age, it is understandable that he is being hounded by retirement questions.

"Every month, my wife and my mother meet and try to make me stop [fighting], but I tell them that's what I love to do," Rua said in the same interview.

One of the fan favourites of the sport, Shogun has disappointed in his last three fights, the last of which he lost via knockout to Dan Henderson. He is a dismal three of four in his last showings and dating back to October 2009, he has only four wins to show in ten fights.

The former superstar of the 205-lb division entered the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) scene in 2007 with an impressive 16-2 fighting record but since then has gone on to produce just 6-7 inside the Octagon with four coming from submissions and knockouts. This may be part of the reason why his wife Renata Rua is asking him to leave behind the sport.

The retirement will have to be contemplated later on as he is still set to face Jimi Manuwa on Nov. 8 at his hometown at Uberlandia, Brazil. Manuwa (14-1) is an up and coming fighter who is a submission and knockout specialist. He will be looking to bounce back from the first loss of his young career that he suffered in the hands of Alexander Gustafsson in March.

Rua, the former UFC light heavyweight champ will be raring to prove that he still has much gas in the tank left and that he should not leave behind the sport that made him a household name to preserve his legacy and more importantly, his health.
