The Mobile World Congress 2012 held in Barcelona, Spain, had a good start as more than 60,000 companies in the telecommunications industry gathered to showcase new technology to the market. One of the most talked about gadgets during the event was the new smartphones launched by different companies.

Most of the smartphones that were unveiled were already an early favorite of customers as each model was designed to suit the specific needs of people. Here are some of the gadgets which were considered as interesting to customers:

Samsung Galaxy Beam

Samsung, the Korean-based company revealed its latest Android smartphone which is Samsung Galaxy Beam. One of the features in this smartphone is that it could be a mini-projector which displays anything on its screen with a 640x360 pixel resolution. This smartphone can project for about 3 hours straight on a single charge. In terms of physical design, the Samsung Galaxy Beam is a little thicker if compared to a normal phone but would still be considered as "handy".

LG Optimus 3D Max

Another Korean-based company, LG also revealed one of the most interesting smartphones during the MWC 2012. This is the LG Optimus 3D Max. It has a 4.3-inch WVGA display with 1.3GHz dual-core processor. One of its interesting features is its 3D capability which can record video in 3D without the use of these very interesting 3D glasses. Despite this interesting feature, this smartphone only has Android Gingerbread as its OS and there is no official announcement yet if it could be upgraded to Android 4.0 or Android ICS.

HTC One X

HTC One X underwent several name change from HTC Endeavor, HTC Edge, and HTC Supreme before settling on the name HTC One X. Despite the name change, it still remains as a popular smartphone on the ongoing MWC 2012 because of its powerful quad-core processor-something that was just introduced in the market. Specifications for this smartphone include NVIDIA's Tegra 3 quad-core processor running at 1.5GHz, 1GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, and Android ICS as its OS.

Nokia 808 PureView

Nokia is attempting to make a mark in the smartphone industry by keeping up with the latest technology when it comes to smartphone features. During the MWC 2012, the Finland-based company unveiled its list of entry-level phones dubbed as Asha with models of 202, 203, and 302. Aside from Asha, the company also revealed Lumia 900 which will go global as well as the Lumia 610 which will cater to the younger market. The biggest star in Nokia's unveiling was the Nokia 808 PureView which has an impressive 41MP camera. This smartphone features Nokia PureView imaging technology as well as high-resolution sensors and optics from Carl Zeiss.

Sony Xpeira U

Sony is also planning to join the smartphone industry but not with a loud bang. Instead, the company offers a smartphone that has good features and is less expensive as compared to other smartphones. The Sony Xperia U has a 3.5-inch screen, 1GHz dual-core processor, 5MP camera, surround sound, and wireless streaming. As for its OS, it is currently loaded with Android Gingerbread but the company has assured users that it could be upgraded to the latest version of Android which is Android ICS.
