In episode 3 of the latest season of "Modern Family," Cameron Tucker is enjoying his new job as the local high school football coach, but now he's found himself facing a dilemma. His nephew Manny is in the team but he's not doing very well. Cam now needs to choose between his desire to win or his duties as Manny's uncle.

Manny has found himself in the position of kicker in the team and being Manny, he's not exactly good at it. He's stressed out and nervous about the upcoming game and his parents weren't helping. Jay was insisting that the nerves are great and they are an essential part of an athlete's preparation before a big game. Gloria, meanwhile, took a different route and is insisted that Manny is perfect and he's going to do great for sure.

Cam was stressed out because Manny had been missing his kicks. Cam became conflicted because he didn't want to bench Manny on account of family loyalty, but he also wanted to extend his winning streak. Mitch advised him to do what's best for the team but Cam still insisted that loyalty to his nephew is more important. He's also afraid that Jay and Gloria might not take it well if their son is benched. On the other hand, he's concerned about his reputation and the possibility that a good performance could lead him to a coaching job for a college team.

In the end, Cam decided that he's going to be a coach and do what coaches do. He went and focused on Manny for a little training. A few missed kicks later and several misplaced ones, Cam realized that it's hopeless.

Come game day, Jay and Gloria were in the stands to watch. When it came time for the goal kick, the kid made a spectacular kick and Jay and Gloria cheered on thinking that it's Manny under the helmet. Some other parents pointed out to them that they were mistaken and they realised that Cam had benched Manny.

The team won and Cam felt that he made the right decision. Gloria and Jay pretended to be fine with it but when everyone arrived at their place for dinner, Gloria relegated Cam to a seat in the breakfast bar and not with the family on the dining table. Cam quietly accepted his fate but the tension at the table is running high.

The bubble finally burst when Manny refused to eat. Gloria accused Jay of pressuring Manny too much to the point that he couldn't eat. Manny then blurted out that he does feel pressured but not from Jay but from Gloria. He said that he at least knows that Jay is aware that he sucks and is expecting as much. He said that it's harder to live up to what Gloria thinks because she keeps calling him perfect all the time. Gloria apologised to Manny but still insisted that Jay puts too much pressure on his children. Jay denied it until Claire walked in and nearly collapsed on the floor from forcing herself to go to work while sick because she was afraid to let her father down. In the end, the point was proven that Jay does put too much pressure on his children. Phil concluded everything with his words of wisdom saying that parents always have unreal expectations for their ids. He said that in the end they are not perfect but you love them anyway.
