Cam Tucker is on a 5-0 winning record for the Dolphins, their local high school football team. In this week's episode of "Modern Family," Cam is determined to keep his winning streak going at all costs. Being the new football coach for the team, Cam sees this as an opportunity and a stepping stone for his career and reputation as a football coach and he will do everything that he can to keep his team on top.

Cam's husband, Mitch, has never been the sporty type and is unable to relate to Cam's dedication. He starts to complain about Cam's absurd superstitions like refusing to wash the cap that he's been using since the team's first win.

Cam has started receiving gift baskets from football enthusiasts in the community, and one time, while he and Mitch were out having a meal, one of the other patrons picked up Cam's tab. Because of this, Cam was feeling even more pressured to keep the wins coming.

As Cam was getting ready for the next game, he pretended to leave his keys because that was exactly how things went as he was preparing for the first game that the team won. He has repeated the ritual since and the team has kept winning. The pre-game ritual included Cam stubbing his toe on the coffee table and tripping on Lily's skates in the driveway but he went through it all in an attempt to keep the streak going and the good luck coming.

Mitch still isn't in with the program and is only glad that Cam allowed him a free pass to skip the games. As Mitch was telling Cam to stop the absurd rituals, Cam launched into a speech about how important football was to him and how the game allowed him to find a place for himself back when he was only seen as the big gay farm boy.

When Cam left for the game, Mitch asked their daughter Lily for her opinion on the matter and as Lily was telling him about how she got bullied in school, Mitch remained focused on his own issues until he found enlightenment through his own epiphany. He realised that he's been selfish and that he should support Cam.

Fast forward to the game and the Dolphins were winning. Cam looked up into the stands and he saw that Mitch just arrived in an effort to make amends. While Cam wasn't paying attention to the game, the opponents scored a touchdown. He walked over to Mitch and while Mitch was explaining why he decided to come, the opponents scored again. Cam got convinced that Mitch is a jinx and his presence is causing his team to lose. Mitch got offended but Cam returned to the game.

Mitch walked out of the stands, and luckily, the Dolphins managed to squeeze in a last-minute touchdown to win the game. When Cam looked up to the stands, he saw that Mitch already left. He called his husband only to find out that in his haste to leave, Mitch got himself stuck on the fence going to the parking lot. Cam came to rescue him and the two made up.

Mitch admitted that although he didn't believe he brought bad luck, he knows that he brought bad energy to the game. He said that sports isn't so bad after all. Just when things were looking up between the two, a group of Cam's players rushed over and doused the two of them in the customary ice bucket. Mitch was appalled by the behaviour and ended up screaming that athletes are Neanderthals. In the end, as Mitch realised that he will make an effort to be more supportive, he will never understand the sports lifestyle.
