The Delgado-Pritchett household was having some language issues in this week's episode of "Modern Family." Gloria's son Manny wants to learn French, but Gloria was insisting that he should learn Spanish because he is of Colombian descent. She went ahead and hired a Spanish tutor for him who didn't quite please both Manny and Jay.

Gloria had initially been trying to tutor Manny herself but she ended up yelling all the time because she felt that he wasn't even making an effort. Jay was staying out of it but agreed it was a good idea to get someone else just to lessen the shouting. When Diego, the new tutor, arrived, everything seemed to be going well until he and Gloria started chatting away in Spanish and Jay started becoming suspicious.

Jay became curious about what they were talking about and became paranoid that perhaps they were discussing him because Diego started gesturing like an old man. The situation became even worse when he found Gloria and Diego in the pool together. Gloria explained that Diego is also a swimming instructor and she's hired him for their son Joe.

Manny took the opportunity to manipulate Jay into becoming even more jealous of the hot young tutor. He convinced Jay to sign off on his transfer to a French class. Later on, Gloria found out about what happened and she confronted Jay. He then said that he didn't want to force Manny to be something that he's not. Gloria argued that Manny, being Colombian, is a lot more Spanish than French. Eventually, it became clear to Gloria that Jay's actions were motivated by jealousy.

Gloria then went on to reveal her frustrations about needing to translate everything in her head before speaking. She also said that it's difficult not being able to speak to anyone in her native tongue in her own home. She said that she is tired of always looking stupid only because she doesn't know how to say certain things in English. She ended her rant by saying that nobody knows how smart she actually is in Spanish.

Jay felt guilty and surprised Gloria the next day by saying that he's rehired the Spanish tutor. Gloria protested and said that she didn't want to force Manny into doing what he doesn't want anymore. Jay then told her that he actually hired Diego for himself and not Manny. He said that he wanted to tell her that he loves her in every language but he did it in very awkward Spanish. Gloria was delighted and said that she's very happy that for once, it was Jay who sounded stupid.
