Season 6 of the Emmy Award-winning comedy series "Modern Family" will start airing on Sept. 24, and expectations are running high. After winning its fifth consecutive Emmy Award for "Best Comedy Series," the show will be gunning for a record-breaking sixth consecutive Emmy this season to finally overtake "Frasier" with which it is now tied at five awards. Some of the season's guest stars have already been announced, and the Pritchett, Dunphy and Tucker families will be joined by a slew of new faces to help them secure that next award.

Entertainment Weekly revealed over a month ago that Steve Zahn will be playing the role of Ronnie, the head of the family that will be moving in next door to the Dunphys. It would not be "Modern Family" if everything will go smoothly with the new neighbours and it turns out Steve Zahn and his gang will be striking up a rivalry with the Dunphys. Ronnie's wife, Kim, will be played by Andrea Anders of "Better Off Ted."

Meanwhile, the Tucker-Pritchett household will be dealing with some major adjustments as newlyweds. They also have a fast-growing daughter, Lily, to worry about. She practically grew up in front of the audience over the years and now she is old enough for school, the new development is sure to bring about new plot twists. Veteran award-winning actress Tyne Daly has been cast as Lily's teacher called Mrs. Plank, according to a report by Christian Post. Mitch will also be dealing with another guest star but this time in the workplace through a new colleague played by Kristen Johnson of "Third Rock From The Sun."

The rest of the clan will be going about their usual day-to-day issues which make the series relatable and highly entertaining. Gloria and Jay will be dealing with the changes brought about by their new son, Joe. They also have their adolescent son Manny who, along with his cousin Luke Dunphy, is slowly transitioning into teenage life and all the issues that come with it.

In the Dunphy household, Alex and Haley will have their usual banter and personality clash issues. Alex is also growing up and will have to deal with finding herself a university to go to. Claire will have to deal with the neighbours, her well-meaning and hilarious husband Phil as well as her father who is grooming her to take over his business.
