“Modern Family” star Sarah Hyland has received a temporary restraining order against her ex-boyfriend. The 23-year-old U.S. actress claims Matthew Prokop choked her and terrorised her physically and verbally during the last four years of their relationship.

The court documents obtained by TMZ reveal how Prokop, 24, threatened her and physically assaulted her during arguments.

According to Hyland, there was one incident in May when Prokop pinned her against a car when they were arguing about her outfit. He allegedly choked her while calling her “c---“ repeatedly.

“His grip was so tight that I could not breathe or speak. I was scared and in fear for my life,” Hyland wrote, adding that she suffered injuries to her voice and had a “very sore throat” after the incident.

She asked Julie Bowen, who plays her mother in the hit comedy series, for help in ending her abusive relationship with Prokop, but it also didn’t turn out well. She bought a plane ticket for the actor so he could go home in Texas, but he freaked out when he saw Bowen and other people in the house.

He ran outside into the backyard and screamed. When he threw a lighter at Hyland, Bowen intervened and told her TV daughter to get out of the house and away from Prokop.

The actor, who appeared in the 2011 Disney film “Geek Charming” along with Hyland, is also being accused of threatening Hyland, apparently telling her that he would set one of her homes on fire and take her dog away from her.

Hyland added that he also “relentlessly bombarded me with vile, threatening and emotionally disturbing texts and voice mails including his own suicide threat” after they broke up.

Prokop reportedly checked into a rehab centre in August, but got out on September 21. The director of the facility told Hyland that it would be best for her if she would get a restraining order against him de to his mental state.

A Los Angeles judge has granted Hyland her request for TRO, which means Prokop is forced to stay away from Hyland and her dog at least 100 yards away at all times.

Hyland and Prokop met at the audition for “High School Musical 3. They started living in together when they were both 19. They split in August.
