An Islamic place of worship in Quebec was allegedly sprayed with pig's blood.

The Quebec police informed that the Chicoutimi mosque had been vandalised with a red liquid which appeared to be pig's blood. Pig or swine is such an animal which is considered "Haram" (forbidden) in Islam. Even though the mosque official did not file any complaint, the police found the act to be "heinous".

The in-charge of the mosque, Moustafa Elayouby, stated that it would be incorrect to judge Quebec by the alienated incident. Mr Elayouby said that he did not even prefer giving a response to the incident as it did not deserve one.

Whoever was responsible for the act left a letter in the mosque. The letter denounced Islam. The supporters of Islam were asked in the letter to "assimilate". Otherwise, they must be headed toward "home".

The letter also said that the mosque had then been "baptized" using the blood of a fresh pig from Quebec. A copy of the letter was also sent to Radio-Canada which is based in the Saguenay region.

On the other hand, anyone is yet to claim the responsibility for the act of vandalism on a formal level. The people behind the act do not seem to gather enough courage to show their faces in public.

The police have said that it is, however, yet to confirm whether the red liquid is pig's blood as the letter suggests. It is interesting to note that the timing of the vandalism has collided with a period when the Quebec government was in the process of introducing a controversial ban on wearing any kind of religious headwear including hijabs. A hijab is an integral part of Islamic culture which suggests the Islamic women to be dressed in a "decent" manner.

The President of the Canadian Muslim Forum, Samer Majzoub, has also suggested that there must a relation between the act of vandalism and the political scenario which surround the proposed secular charter.
