People have debated long enough on whether photography is one of the fine arts or not. Opinions differ as some do not consider photography as one of the true art forms while others find it as a stand-alone art. On the other hand, we have seen some stunning photographs over the years. Many of them are sold at a staggeringly high price. Here are some of the most expensive ones.
99 cent II Diptychon (Photographer: Andreas Gursky)
This photograph was sold in 2007 at $3,346,456. Gursky photographed the interior of a supermarket which has numerous colourful products for sale. It was a surprise for many to know the price at which it was sold for.
Andy Warhol (Photographer: Robert Mapplethorpe)
This photograph was sold in 2006 at $643,200. Mapplethorpe captured the noted pop artist from America in an unconventional manner. The photographer took portrait shots of many a personality from the art. He is recognized for a bold approach in his work.
Billy the Kid (Photographer: unknown)
This photograph was sold in 2011 at $2,300,000. Photographed by an unknown photographer, this happens to be the sole surviving authentic portrait which has the most notable American gunman.

This photograph was sold in 2011 at $3,890,500. This is one of the self-portraits which the author took wearing clothes of a teenager. This was photographed in 1981.

This photograph was sold in 2012 at $3,666,500. It provides a vision of a patrol by Red Army after one ambush near Moqor situated in Afghanistan during the winter of 1986.
Dovima With Elephants (Photographer: Richard Avedon)
This photograph was sold in 2010 at $1,151,976. This is an iconic image of Dovima who is one among the most successful American supermodels. Two photographs were taken during the shoot. Along with this one, the other was Dovima dressed in black. However, its negative disappeared mysteriously.

This photograph was sold in 2006 at $1,470,000. This photograph is one among over 300 photographs of the painter, Georgia O'Keeffe. The photographer deiced to capture specific body parts instead of any advanced composition.
