For the past four decades, there have surely been lots of female artists and musicians who have also turned out to be the greatest fashion icons of all time.

Whether they have influenced your own style or not, it cannot be denied that they have made a good job in creating a solid bridge between music and fashion.

Here are the ones who made our list who played a memorable role in the music industry as well as in the fashion industry. All these women have simply made a mark not just on the common person's sense of style but also on other celebrities in the entertainment industry.

Janis Joplin

Joplin was one rock star from the seventies who popularized the pairs of patchwork pants along with some fringe vests and the long layered necklace pieces. Her own style has influenced other artists as well like Joss Stone. Way back in 2008, a fashion magazine even made a spread tribute for the prevalent fashion style of Joplin.

Debby Harry

Harry, being a member of the 70s band 'Blondie' became a leader of fashion with her skinny jeans worn at a high waist along with the monochromatic dresses that just hug all your important body parts. Her style was adopted by modern singers of today like Ashlee Simpson and also Gwen Stefani of 'No Doubt.' But eventually, Stefani also became a fashion icon of her own right.

Madonna

Who would not know the influence Madonna brought to the entire fashion universe? She was the one who popularized the Vogue cones along with the frozen gothic styles. With Madonna, you have more than ten varying looks to select from. Her influence can be seen clearly on new artists of today like Lady Gaga.

Erykah Badu

This is the singer who introduced the African clothes as something which can be mixed with funky fashion styles of the hip hop genre. She used to wear the headwraps when she started her career in the 90s but at present you can still witness her rocking it out loud with her all natural afro hair. Whatever is the kind of look she chooses to wear, you would find her brave to show off her all natural African roots.

Other notable music icons who turned out to be fashion leaders also include Shania Twain and Dixie Chicks for the country music genre; Courtney Love for grunge; and there's Brody Dalle for the female rockers out there.
