More than 70 per cent of Federal Member for Brisbane Teresa Gambaro’s electorate support full marriage equality, the Liberal MP announced.

Ms Gambaro polled over 1500 people and also found support for civil unions was very low, even amongst those who opposed marriage equality.

Ms Gambaro is the third Liberal Party MP to announce overwhelming electorate support for marriage equality, with Malcolm Turnbull reporting 75 per cent of his electorate support reform, and Joe Hockey reporting 78 per cent of young voters in his electorate support marriage equality.

Marriage Equality Advocates have welcomed the announcement.

According to the Australian Marriage Equality National Convener Alex Greenwich, "The strong support for same-sex marriage in these key Liberal Party seats, proves that equality is an issue that voters across the political spectrum feel strongly about".

Mr. Greenwich was also heartened by the low support for civil unions "This result also shows that Australians understand that separate is not equal, and they see that creating a 2nd class scheme will only further entrench discrimination".
