Motorola submitted an application to the United States Patent and Trademark Office for an electronic device designed to enfold about an appendage of user. This wearable device can do gaze detection, touch screen and has a dual display system.

Motorola's Upcoming Wearable Device

Motorola is not new with wearable devices which focus on fitness-oriented functionality. The company release MOTOACTIV with enough features such as Twitter and Facebook plus fitness ready functions for wearers.

The newly proposed device will include some interesting additions such as gaze detection, touch screen controls, a hinged dual display system, and monitors vital signs and exercise. Motorola submitted an application of their new device to the United States Patent and Trademark Office which was filed back in February 2012 and recently published.

It is still uncertain if the device will become compatible with Motorola smartphones to gain control access or perform tasks via Bluetooth or NFC which currently enabled on Galaxy Gear.

According to the application, David P. Winkler, Michael J. Erpenbeck and John C. Johnson are listed as inventors of the device. Included in the abstract section are:

"An electronic device can include detectors for altering the presentation of data on one or more displays. In a wearable device, a flexible housing can be configured to enfold about an appendage of a user, such as a user's wrist."

"A gaze detector can be included to detect a gaze direction, and optionally a gaze cone. An orientation detector can be configured to detect an orientation of the electronic device relative to the user."

Motorola Mobility Inc. is the assignee name with serial number 407026 and series code 13; filed in February 28, 2012 then published in August 29, 2013.

The application for patent also detailed the claims, description and embodiments of the invention. Special functions of the wearable device proposed by Motorola include:

- Detects timer expiration

- Detects wearer's mood

- Detects health condition of the wearer

- Touch sensitive display

- Response to gaze

- Dual display system
