Motorola’s Second Generation Moto X and Moto G Leading the Lollipop Race
Motorola announced in a blog last Wednesday that its latest line of smartphones will have the Android 5.0 Lollipop as its platform. The company is now a step ahead versus other rivals like some Nexus devices which are still waiting for the update.
As of today, owners of the 2014 versions of Moto X, the Moto G U.S. GSM model and the Moto G global GSM retail model should expect to see the Lollipop update notice. Users in the U.S. have all the reasons to enjoy the said update, TechnoBuffalo reports.
To clarify, the Moto X Pure Edition is getting the update and not the carrier customized version of the phone bought from AT&T or Verizon which will have to wait a bit longer. The Moto G is sold at $179.99 which is so cheap that it isn't sold with any carriers. The U.S. GSM model is sure to get updated and the international GSM model is getting the update as well provided the owner is using it in America.
Aside from Motorola's lead to Nexus, the company is also victorious in beating LG's G3. LG announced to be the first with the Lollipop roll-out but Motorola won the race by being ahead by a few days. The software updates have already commenced though the roll-out phase might take a day or two. According to PCWorld, Moto users are way ahead compared to Nexus users who are still patiently waiting on the official release contrary to the fact that they bought the smartphones direct from Google.
The Lollipop upgrade in the second generation Moto X and Moto G brings variety of enhancements which includes the Material Design giving bold and new visuals on the smartphone's interface. The upgrade enables users to access notifications even on a locked screen and even disregard them without unlocking. Features like Downtime and Interruption allow users to decide what people and what notifications get through at times that users prefer.
The leap to 5.0 also features the Guest mode which allows user to set up another account in case other people need to borrow the phone. This feature also enables owners to limit the guest's view to a particular application.
A new flashlight is also added in Quick settings. Plus the Battery settings panel can show an estimated projection for how much time you have left even as you charge. It also has a new battery saver mode that reduces performance and most background data operations to save power and extend battery life.
Motorola is indeed keeping up to its promise to deliver the Android updates the fastest time possible. With the company's lead, expect other manufacturers to do the same in the coming days and weeks.
